13887697Review: While I enjoyed reading this book, its subject is one with which I always feel something of a disconnect. I have never had really close female friends, so the whole idea of a group of Yes Sisters is totally foreign to me. I did enjoy reading the story of Angelia turning her dream into reality and also getting to read about certain events from the perspective of the "Yes Sister" who was involved in it with her. I can see this book being used in a women's ministry to encourage us to support one another in every area of life.

Synopsis: The highly anticipated new memoir by bestselling author Glennon Doyle Melton tells the story of her journey of self-discovery after the implosion of her marriage.

Just when Glennon Doyle Melton was beginning to feel she had it all figured out—three happy children, a doting spouse, and a writing career so successful that her first book catapulted to the top of the New York Times bestseller list—her husband revealed his infidelity and she was forced to realize that nothing was as it seemed. A recovering alcoholic and bulimic, Glennon found that rock bottom was a familiar place. In the midst of crisis, she knew to hold on to what she discovered in recovery: that her deepest pain has always held within it an invitation to a richer life.

Love Warrior is the story of one marriage, but it is also the story of the healing that is possible for any of us when we refuse to settle for good enough and begin to face pain and love head-on. This astonishing memoir reveals how our ideals of masculinity and femininity can make it impossible for a man and a woman to truly know one another - and it captures the beauty that unfolds when one couple commits to unlearning everything they’ve been taught so that they can finally, after thirteen years of marriage, fall in love.

Love Warrior is a gorgeous and inspiring account of how we are born to be warriors: strong, powerful, and brave; able to confront the pain and claim the love that exists for us all. This chronicle of a beautiful, brutal journey speaks to anyone who yearns for deeper, truer relationships and a more abundant, authentic life.

Review: This book is my introduction to this author, and I am so glad I chose to read it. While some of it was difficult reading (I could feel her pain, disappointment, confusion), other parts were uplifting and wonderful.

The author takes us along with her on a deeply personal life journey, and she does it in such a way that we can all connect with her somewhere along the way. I can relate to being sure you know what love is and how it is supposed to look and feel, and then realizing that you've only bought into what society portrays--and working to unlearn it to find a deeper, truer love.

BOOK TOUR AND GIVEAWAY: Writing For Bliss by Diana Raab, PhD.

    Book Information
    Genre: Nonfiction, writing
    • Paperback
    • Publisher: Loving Healing Press (September 1, 2017)
    • Language: English
    • ISBN-10: 1615993231
    • ISBN-13: 978-1615993239

    NEW RELEASE...
A Seven-Step Plan For Telling Your Story and Transforming Your Life

Writing for Bliss is most fundamentally about reflection, truth, and freedom. With techniques and prompts for both the seasoned and novice writer, it will lead you to tap into your creativity through storytelling and poetry, examine how life-changing experiences can inspire writing, pursue self-examination and self-discovery through the written word, and, understand how published writers have been transformed by writing.

Poet and memoirist Raab (Lust) credits her lifelong love of writing and its therapeutic effects with inspiring her to write this thoughtful and detailed primer that targets pretty much anyone interested in writing a memoir. Most compelling here is Raab's willingness to share her intimate stories (e.g., the loss of a relative, ongoing struggles with cancer, a difficult relationship with her mother). Her revelations are encouraging to writers who feel they need "permission to take... a voyage of self-discovery." The book's seven-step plan includes plenty of guidance, including on learning to "read like a writer," and on addressing readers as if "seated across the table ." Raab covers big topics such as the "art and power of storytelling" and small details such as choosing pens and notebooks that you enjoy using. She also helps readers with the important step of "finding your form." --PUBLISHER'S WEEKLY

Review: As a lifelong writer, I was very excited to read this book.  It turned out to be more than I could have imagined. There are writing prompts sprinkled throughout the text, which in themselves are incredibly valuable. But when you add them to the text of the book, it becomes an invaluable resource for writers.

The author uses a narrative style of writing which makes the book easy to read and understand. The seven steps she outlines are easy to follow and make logical sense. The steps are these:

    1.  Preparing To Write
    2. Cultivating Self-Awareness
    3. Speaking Your Truth
    4. Examing Your Life
    5. Finding Your Form
    6. Unleashing With Poetry
    7. Sharing Your Writing
At first reading, I found so much information relevant for me, and I am sure I will find something different each time I read it again. It is a resource that will resonate in different ways for people at different times.

BOOK TOUR AND GIVEAWAY: The Fabulous @50 Re-Experience by Dianna Bowes

Baby Boomer women have spent decades suppressing their own wants and desires, and losing themselves in the expectations and demands of culture, parents, partners, and children, working hard to please and care for almost everyone but themselves. They've been misunderstood by marketers, politicians, millenials, most men .. and last but not least, themselves.

The time has come for these strong, beautiful, and fabulous women to discover, reveal, and honor their true selves. The time has come for them to re-expereince life as they've known it, and to celebrate life as it can be.

If you're a Boomer woman in personal crisis needing to reinvent your life, facing divorce, life-threatening illness, financial disaster, or the crushing loneliness after the kids have grown and gone, if you are asking yourself, "Now what?" and fearing that it might be too late for you and your dreams ... this book is for you.

    The Fabulous@50 Re-Experience

From Dianna Bowes, visionary foundress of Fabulous @ 50, The Fabulous @50 Re-Experience is a living, breathing, sweet and sassy guide to remind you that you're not alone ... and it's not too late for you to thrive.

Review: This is a great book for baby boomer women (like me). Being midway through my fifties, I can relate to nearly everything the author discusses in her book.  She says this time of our life should be about rediscovering who we are and what we want to do with the rest of our lives.

Ms. Bowes gives us a combination of homework questions, coaching and artwork to show us that we can change our lives if we are willing to do the work and rid ourselves of our demons.

There are personal stories throughout the book which are inspirational. There is also a great deal of humor to be found in the author's writing.

When it comes to the questions she asks, I have to admit that some of them go VERY deep and left me staring at the page for quite some time before I could come up with a really honest answer.

If you are in your fifties, or even if you're just getting close, this book is well worth reading and working through.

    About the Author
Dianna is a shining example of how to get the most out of life as a “seasoned” woman. At a time when most of us look to relax in front of the TV, she is out in our Alberta communities creating a dynasty! And in her “spare time,” she turns her time and talents to family and friends, graphic design, painting, biking, cross-country skiing and fulfilling a host of volunteer commitments. Though Dianna is now a successful entrepreneur and inspiration to many, she had to overcome many barriers to get there. Raised by grandparents in a dysfunctional family, Dianna was shy and lacking in self-confidence as a child and young adult. She married at 20, but tragically her new husband was killed in a explosion within a year. She remarried a few years later and was blessed with two children who are the light of her life. But the marriage was rocky and further eroded Dianna’s self-esteem. A serious health problem (tumour on her vertebrae) in her 40s brought things to a head and the marriage ended. Rather than wallow in despair, Bowes decided to take control of her life. She recreated herself into the woman she always wanted to be by focusing on personal development and coaching. When her 50th birthday was approaching, she started Fabulous@50 (a community for seasoned woman) and has never looked back. Now confident and poised, Bowes is dedicated to helping other women through their life changes and challenges. Bowes has won numerous awards for her work: a 2014 Leader of Tomorrow Award from Business in Edmonton, 2011 YWCA Woman of Distinction Award (Turning Point category) The 2014 New York Stevie Awards in two categories: Women Helping Women (Bronze) and Best Event (Gold). 2015 New York Stevie Award - Top Canadian Entrepreneur (Bronze).

BOOK TOUR AND GIVEAWAY: Finding Mom by Amanda Mawhinney

     photo Finding Mom_zpsinzmrio5.jpg
    Non-fiction, parenting, self-help, personal growth, mom self-care.
    Date Published: October 6, 2016
    Publisher: My Koala Pouch publishing

     photo cover_zpsnin0989t.png

Synopsis: Vitality. Passion. Tranquility. Do any of these words currently describe you?
Finding Mom will reawaken your dreams and help you to find and reinvent yourself.

Sometimes we love being a mom, but get frustrated when motherhood takes over our life. You are a mom and so much more. That’s why it’s important to start your journey to find your purpose beyond just being a mom. Learn the secrets to finding “me time” in even your busiest days. Uncover and recover your unique mom personality with a personality quiz. Create a sustainable and effective plan for your future that your family will support. No matter how busy you are, how many kids you have, or how young your children are, this book makes finding fulfillment possible for you.

What are you waiting for? Make a difference in your life and start finding yourself today!

Review: This book is a quick easy read, which makes it perfect for busy moms. I read the whole thing, as well as took all the quizzes included, in just over an hour, so it could be done during nap time.

I would have loved to get advice like this when my children were younger. I can remember feeling guilty when I took time just for me as if I were "deserting" my maternal responsibilities. But I can also remember being refreshed and looking at situations with fresh eyes after having that "me time."

Reading this book and actually completing all the assignments in the pages is a bit like having your own private life coach. You might be surprised to see the differences between how you see yourself and how other people see you--and then you can work on a plan to close that gap.

I would also add that this book is not JUST for moms. Anyone who is looking to improve their life can make use of the strategies found here.

Author Tasher releases three new books on life after divorce – Divorced and Scared No More! Therapist and clinical author Justin Nutt LSCSW, LAC consults as her technical advisor. Co-Author Tony Haynes is a practitioner of Acrostic Poetry -poetry where the first, last or other letters in a line spell out a particular word or phrase. On her 26th wedding anniversary, Tasher divorced and embarked on a new life. Her marriage was broken all to pieces, she was not going to let the divorce break her. Tasher quickly discovered that single life was very different from all those years ago. Like many, she initially was scared. Yet she was determined to become Divorce and Scared NO More!

Despite her dyslexia, she decided to share with others things she learned while rebuilding her life. The launch of DASNM.com quickly received a worldwide following. The logo was inspired by a set of broken pilot wings. No two people will have identical situations, hopefully the DASNM series will assist others with the least amount of trepidation, during this difficult transition.

photo Divorced and Scared No More Book One_zpskrsotv3a.jpg

photo Divorced and Scared No More Book Two_zpszch8ddzd.jpg
Book two, Divorced and Scared No More: Practical Advice for the Newly Divorced (ISBN: 978-1498465106) shares views on maintaining cordial relationships with ex-spouses, with a focus on children and extended families. Topics readers can look forward to discovering answers to include: attending special events with your ex-spouse, the impact of divorce on children, ways to arrange custody issues, how to handle separate holidays, and handling finances. You'll find ways to embrace your new found freedom and turn the lemons life threw at you into a Zesty Lemon Sorbet!

photo Divorced and Scared No More Book Three_zpscjbfyivf.jpg
Book three, Divorced and Scared No More: Dating After Divorce: From Lemons to Zesty Lemon Sorbet (ISBN: 978-1498465120) shows readers how to turn the lemons of divorce into an experience of acceptance and renewal, carrying this into dating. In this reading, Tasher gives you tools to help you get back out there and find the love that awaits you. Inside this book, you'll gauge your emotional availability to see if you're ready to accept the fun and excitement that comes with dating. Here you'll learn how to put your ex and baggage behind you to engage in the present moment. Divorced and Scared No More: Dating After Divorce: From Lemons to Zesty Lemon Sorbet shows you where to find love, dating safety and how to set up your profiles on dating sites.

Review: All three of these books provide solid, practical advice for creating a new life for yourself after a divorce. I wish I would have had these resources when I was in that situation...I would have hopefully made different choices for myself and my children, and made our lives better.

Each book has clear and concise chapters which include real life stories to help readers relate the advice to their own lives. There are also scriptural references which show why there is often a stigma related to divorce, and how we need to work past those ideas.

I highly recommend this series to anyone who is going through or has gone through a divorce and is looking for a "survival guide" to make it through to the other side.

**I received copies of these books in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.**

As she travels on a spiritual journey to understanding her purpose, overcoming the undertones of low confidence, self-acceptance, and the importance of inspiration, she rose against the odds with forgiveness and strengthening her faith.

Review: I was drawn to this book simply by its title. I've always seen myself as the "black sheep" of my nuclear family, and I was interested to see how someone else might deal with feeling that way.

We've all been hurt in our lives, and the only way to heal from those hurts is to admit we feel them and work through them. The most important thing to learn in life is to BE YOU! It's not about being who others tell you to be, or want you to be. Be positive about yourself, and you'll feel yourself begin to heal.

If the way you think greatly influences the way you live, then it’s important to know how to manage your thoughts and channel their power to improve your life, rather than hinder it. Mind Matters explores practical ways you can bring balance to your thought life, from replacing anxious thoughts with hopeful ones to curbing unnecessary thinking altogether. Review: This book resonated with me as I have a family member who is an abuse survivor, with whom I plan to share it in the near future.  Each of the six pillars of the 30 day journey includes a section on "Working On Common Challenges," as well as "Resilience Practice" for continued work on that pillar. The author is a survivor herself, so she knows what she is talking about, and is very empathetic to other survivors.

All you need to start the journey is determination, this book, and 30 days.  Highly recommend it for all women who have survived sexual abuse and feel they need help to move past it.

    Rating: Four stars
