Love is in the air in Aspen Hills, and it’s making a terrible mess of Cat Latimer’s writers’ retreat—especially when blood stains the plot . . . Ever since her business partner, Shauna, fell for a wealthy landowner in town, Cat has been working double time to keep her writers’ retreat running. And with the January session almost underway, that spells trouble. As if scheduling mishaps aren’t disastrous enough, Shauna skips out on kitchen duties one morning, forcing Cat to serve unsuspecting guests store-bought muffins . . . But best laid plans really go awry when Shauna discovers her beau missing from their bed. When his body later turns up in the horse barn, they quickly find out the victim’s scandalous lifestyle left many dying for revenge. While balancing an eccentric group of aspiring writers and a suspect list for the record books, Cat soon finds herself on the heels of a killer—and authoring her most deadly conclusion yet . . .
Review: Another writer's retreat, another murder mystery. This one really hits close to home, with Shauna being the prime suspect in the murder of her fiance. On top of that, Cat is still digging into the mystery surrounding her ex-husband Michael's death.

As usual, the author blends the main characters, recurring supporting characters and new visitors to create a compelling story. There is plenty of suspense and action, mixed in with humor and romance. We get realistic wrap-ups to both of the mysteries. Hopefully knowing what happened to Michael will allow Cat to move on with her life in the future.

Highly recommend this to all fans of cozy mysteries.

Synopsis: Former English professor Cat Latimer is back in Colorado, hosting writers’ retreats in the big blue Victorian she’s inherited, much to her surprise, from none other than her carousing ex-husband! Now it’s an authors’ getaway—but Cat won’t let anyone get away with murder…

The bed-and-breakfast is open for business, and bestselling author Tom Cook is among its first guests. Cat doesn’t know why he came all the way from New York, but she’s glad to have him among the quirkier—and far less famous—attendees.

Cat’s high school sweetheart Seth, who’s fixing up the weathered home, brings on mixed emotions for Cat…some of them a little overpowering. But it’s her uncle, the local police chief, whom she’ll call for help when there’s a surprise ending for Tom Cook in his cozy guest room. Will a killer have the last word on the new life Cat has barely begun?

Review: I have always enjoyed this author's Tourist Trap series of cozy mysteries, so I was thrilled to learn she was beginning another series. This one really grabbed my writer's soul and heart, being based around a writing retreat and with the main character being an author.

I was definitely not disappointed by the first book of this new series. Cat Latimer is a remarkable character who has been through a lot in her young life but has come through it all stronger and more determined.

The supporting characters, including Cat's partner in the retreat, Shauna, her former (and future?) boyfriend, Seth, and her Uncle Pete (who is also the police chief), are great complements to Cat's character and her personality. I look forward to seeing all of them in future stories, and hope that Cat and Seth will figure out their relationship as they move forward as well.

The story is very well written, as are all of Ms. Cahoon's books. She will keep you guessing as to who the killer really was, and why they committed the crime. I was totally surprised by the identity and motive of the killer, which is just the way I like it.

I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries!

Synopsis: The kettle’s about to boil over . . .

The quaint coastal town of South Cove, California, is all abuzz about the opening of a new specialty shop, Tea Hee. But as Coffee, Books, and More owner Jill Gardner is about to find out, there’s nothing cozy about murder . . .

Shop owner Kathi Corbin says she came to South Cove to get away from her estranged family. But is she telling the truth? And did a sinister someone from her past follow her to South Cove? When a woman claiming to be Kathi’s sister starts making
waves and a dead body is found in a local motel, Jill must step in to clear Kathi’s name—without getting herself in hot water.

Includes an excerpt from A STORY TO KILL, Lynn Cahoon’s BRAND NEW series.

Review: I'm a big fan of this series, and this seventh book is no exception. All the main characters are back, and in fine form. They seem to be growing with each book, their personalities becoming more well defined. We also get a chance to meet some new folks--but will they be sticking around?

As usual, Jill and Aunt Jackie have some sharply biting, witty exchanges, which add to my enjoyment of the stories. Jill and Greg's relationship is continuing to evolve, and I was very satisfied by the direction it was headed by the end of the book.

The mystery is fast-paced and fabulous! There are secrets, lies, murder, and so much more.  The reveal of the murderer was a real surprise after plenty of twists and turns. Can't wait to see what will happen next time!

Book Information
Genre: Cozy Mystery
Publisher: Lyrical Underground (August 18, 2015)
ASIN: B00TNBLXX0

 photo killer run_zps3b1dele7.jpg

Synopsis: Jill Gardner—owner of Coffee, Books, and More—has somehow been talked into sponsoring a 5k race along the beautiful California coast. The race is a fundraiser for the local preservation society—but not everyone is feeling so charitable…

The day of the race, everyone hits the ground running…until a local business owner stumbles over a very stationary body. The deceased is the vicious wife of the husband-and-wife team hired to promote the event—and the husband turns to Jill for help in clearing his name. But did he do it? Jill will have to be very careful because this killer is ready to put her out of the running…forever!
Review: Once again, Jill finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation, over the objections of her police officer boyfriend, Greg. Thanks to the murder, she and Greg are forced to cancel their Alaskan cruise plans, so she decides to spend the time renovating her guest room and investigating several suspects.

Jill is a very logical, likable character, even though she tends to act without thinking way too often. In this book, her relationship with Greg is irritating to me. He claims to be angry with her, but it comes across as just words, as they never discuss it or do anything to work it out. Jill's Aunt Jackie is by far my favorite character, and I love that she got a larger role this time around. She is SO much fun!

I was a little surprised by the way the mystery played out, and the entire story is very entertaining. The author perfectly captures the feel of a small town, and the closeness of the residents. Every town should have a place like Coffee, Books, and More!
