Synopsis: The highly anticipated new memoir by bestselling author Glennon Doyle Melton tells the story of her journey of self-discovery after the implosion of her marriage.

Just when Glennon Doyle Melton was beginning to feel she had it all figured out—three happy children, a doting spouse, and a writing career so successful that her first book catapulted to the top of the New York Times bestseller list—her husband revealed his infidelity and she was forced to realize that nothing was as it seemed. A recovering alcoholic and bulimic, Glennon found that rock bottom was a familiar place. In the midst of crisis, she knew to hold on to what she discovered in recovery: that her deepest pain has always held within it an invitation to a richer life.

Love Warrior is the story of one marriage, but it is also the story of the healing that is possible for any of us when we refuse to settle for good enough and begin to face pain and love head-on. This astonishing memoir reveals how our ideals of masculinity and femininity can make it impossible for a man and a woman to truly know one another - and it captures the beauty that unfolds when one couple commits to unlearning everything they’ve been taught so that they can finally, after thirteen years of marriage, fall in love.

Love Warrior is a gorgeous and inspiring account of how we are born to be warriors: strong, powerful, and brave; able to confront the pain and claim the love that exists for us all. This chronicle of a beautiful, brutal journey speaks to anyone who yearns for deeper, truer relationships and a more abundant, authentic life.

Review: This book is my introduction to this author, and I am so glad I chose to read it. While some of it was difficult reading (I could feel her pain, disappointment, confusion), other parts were uplifting and wonderful.

The author takes us along with her on a deeply personal life journey, and she does it in such a way that we can all connect with her somewhere along the way. I can relate to being sure you know what love is and how it is supposed to look and feel, and then realizing that you've only bought into what society portrays--and working to unlearn it to find a deeper, truer love.

Blessings Of Unity: God's Best For Our Marriage by Richard T. Case #AllForJesus #Flyby

    Book Information

    About the book:
The Blessings of Unity offers insight and ideas for creating godly unity in our marriages centered around two key concepts:
    1) Abiding in the Vine and walking in the Spirit, and
    2) Learning and applying the concept of unity.
Unity is achieved when a man and woman strive for agreement with God by processing His Will on every decision and in every issue. Through Biblically-centered discussions of discord, division, unity, discipleship, and prayer, and through exploring Biblical examples of unity, Richard Case offers husbands and wives practical and spiritual advice for working together in unity in the Spirit so that they can more perfectly present themselves to God for his divine approval.
    ($13.43 on Amazon, paperback)

Review: This is a short read, but it is definitely not short on information. It's a very in-depth look at marriage and creating/keeping unity in your relationship. It starts with a quiz for each spouse to take and then compare their answers, to evaluate where their unity level stands in the present moment, and where they need work.

The author begins with a discussion of disunity, and then his subsequent chapters look at ways to turn that around and bring the unity God intended for your marriage. No matter how unified you may believe your marriage to be, there is most likely an area or two where you could benefit from the advice found in this book.

Each chapter is outlined fully, with a list of numbered points as well as scriptural references, so that you can easily locate all of the key points of the book. I would highly recommend this book to all married or engaged couples.

**I received a free copy of this book from the author/publisher. I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.**

Review: All three of these books provide solid, practical advice for creating a new life for yourself after a divorce. I wish I would have had these resources when I was in that situation...I would have hopefully made different choices for myself and my children, and made our lives better.

Each book has clear and concise chapters which include real life stories to help readers relate the advice to their own lives. There are also scriptural references which show why there is often a stigma related to divorce, and how we need to work past those ideas.

I highly recommend this series to anyone who is going through or has gone through a divorce and is looking for a "survival guide" to make it through to the other side.

**I received copies of these books in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.**

Before, During, After, by Richard Bausch

     photo 18473919_zps19e261f3.jpg

Synopsis: When Natasha, a talented young artist working as a congressional aide, meets Michael Faulk, an Episcopalian priest struggling with his faith, the stars seem to align. Although he is nearly two decades older, they discover in each other the happy yearning and exhilaration of lovers, and within months they are engaged. Shortly before their wedding, while Natasha is vacationing in Jamaica and Faulk is in New York attending the wedding of a family friend, the terrorist attacks of September 11 shatter the tranquility of the nation’s summer. Alone in a state of abject terror, cut off from America and convinced that Faulk is dead, Natasha makes an error in judgment that leads to a private trauma of her own on the Caribbean shore. A few days later, she and Faulk are reunited, but the horror of that day and Natasha’s inability to speak of it inexorably divide their relationship into “before” and “after.” They move to Memphis and begin their new life together, but their marriage quickly descends into repression, anxiety, and suspicion.

Thoughts: This is a very different sort of love story. Michael and Natasha meet and become engaged prior to 9/11, and that day finds them separated---he in NYC, she in Jamaica. Because of something that happens on that day, there are secrets between them, which result in tension, frustration, and anger.

As much as I enjoyed this book, I had a few complaints about it. The phrases "babe," "my love," etc., were used too often for my taste. We know the main characters are in love, but we also know they have a certain amount of emotional distance between them, so the endearments seemed a little forced through much of the book.

The other issue is the amount of drinking....it seemed that everyone always had a drink in their hand, and the main characters spent a LOT of time drunk.

I was slightly disappointed in the ending, as well...but I have hopes that it means there might be more to the story of Michael and Natasha in the future.

    My rating: Four stars
