Review: I was unaware of Passion music until I was given the opportunity to listen to this CD. As I listened, I recognized a few of the songs, as we sing them in our worship service. The ones that I don't know, I'm going to be listening to until I learn them.

These songs are very upbeat and catchy, and they all have important messages to share. I plan to add this CD to those I use during my morning "God time." And I've started following Passion on Spotify as well.

Highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys contemporary Christian music.

Review: This is a great CD, and I had a difficult time choosing favorite songs from it. I finally decided on Awake O Sleeper and Carriers as my top two. with My Father's Arms a very close third. The lyrics and music of every song on the CD are moving and inspirational.

I love how most of the songs are filled with pounding drumbeats, amazing guitar work, and powerful vocals. They hold your attention and should be a hit with teens and young adults. It's a perfect addition to a road trip CD collection.

  • Audio CD (September 22, 2017)
    • Number of Discs: 1
    • Label: Sparrow
    • ASIN: B073LWKQMM

    Matthew’s heart behind the album:
Matthew wrote his new album All In with the goal of encouraging himself and others to get up off the sidelines of their faith and really live it out – to go all in in your time with God, all in with your family, all in with your community, and all in battling your fears that may hold you back from becoming who God made you to be. Along that same theme, Matthew will be launching a 6-week All in Challenge on his social media starting 9/18, and each week Matthew will be challenging his fans to go all in in a different part of their lives. What does it look like when a heart that knows Jesus takes a step and holds nothing back? How can we go All In in the places that mean the most?

    Track List:
    1. All In
    2. Broken Things
    3. Mercy Is A Song

Review: This is a moving and inspirational CD. Each of the 14 songs has a message well worth hearing. With these songs, Matthew shares his personal journey, so we learn more about who he is and has been.

Broken Things is my favorite track on this CD. It talks about God's grace, and his ability to use imperfect, broken people for the benefit of His kingdom. It resonates with me in my own life.

CD Review: Every Mile Mattered by Nichole Nordeman #everymilemattered #flyby

Nichole Nordeman Every Mile Mattered FINAL

Nichole Nordeman is set to release her fifth full-length studio record Every Mile Mattered. Following up her 2015 EP, The Unmaking, which featured the viral hit 'Slow Down,' Every Mile Mattered is a collection of songs taking a reflective look at her life's path to becoming the woman and Christ-follower she is today. From the leading single 'Every Mile Mattered,' to a vulnerable introspective track titled 'Dear Me,' this album is all about the journey, the ups and downs of life, and not looking back with regret, but with thankfulness that God was there at every turn.

'In the hands of Jesus, every one of those miles brought me to right now. Nothing wasted. Every mile mattered.'

Nichole Nordeman is one of Christian music's most respected singer/songwriters, with four No. 1 songs and seven Top 5 radio singles, including hits such as 'Holy,' 'Legacy' and 'Brave.' Her album Brave debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Christian & Gospel Album Chart.

    Track List
    11 songs, 46 minutes

    1) Every Mile Mattered
    2) You're Here
    3) Dear Me
    4) No Longer
    5) Lean
    6) Hush, Hush
    7) Listen To Your Life
    8) Beautiful Day
    9) Sound Of Surviving
    10) Anywhere We Are
    11) Slow Down (featuring Pepper Ingram)

Review: Every track on this CD is inspiring and emotional. There are two that really touched my heart more than the others, however. Every Mile Mattered is about letting go of the past and relying on God's mercy and grace. Slow Down is a song that will resonate with every parent. We all know that our kids grow up way too fast, and that we would love to be able to slow them down, or freeze them in a specific time.

The other nine songs are just as thought-provoking, and I enjoy every minute of every time I Ilisten to this CD.

CD REVIEW: Out Of The Dark (Deluxe Edition) by Mandisa #OutOfTheDark #FlyBy

Mandisa wrote her song “Overcomer” in 2013 to encourage her close friend Kisha, who was battling breast cancer. Mandisa really believed and prayed that God was going to heal her, but when Kisha went to be with Jesus in 2014, Mandisa’s foundation was shaken in a way she never expected. She fell into a deep pit of depression for close to 3 years, shutting out her friends, family and the rest of the world. Mandisa believes if she had kept going down that road she was on, she would not be here today… but God stepped in and lifted her out of that pit by using her close friends to communicate their love for her and God’s love for her. This album is Mandisa’s way of letting her fans into her story – it’s called 'Out Of The Dark' because that is exactly where God lifted her out of!

You can watch her talk openly about this on Good Morning America last week here: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/video/mandisa-opens-overcoming-depression-47020463

Review: There is SO much emotion in this CD. Every time I thought I had found my favorite song, the next one would touch my heart again....so I'm in love with every track!  I do have to say that PROVE ME WRONG, which talks about the things that caused Mandisa's depression and doubt, is probably the one that spoke to me the most. It is so honest and beautiful. Another favorite is BLEED THE SAME, with TobyMac, which deals with the racial tensions in our country these days, and reminds us that on the inside, we're all the same.

This CD helps to remind all of us that even the most devout Christian can have their moments of doubt and temptation...those times when we're in a pit of despair, not seeing a way out and not knowing if He is still listening to our cries. It also reminds us that He is ALWAYS there, and He will always help us.

It's been four years since Mandisa's last album, but it has been well worth the wait.  Welcome back, and God bless you for sharing your journey with us!!

    2) To Be Together
    3) Christmas For You And Me

    5) December
    6) White Christmas

    10) Christmas Don't Be Late
    11) Still Can't Sleep
    12) Another Merry Christmas
    13) O, Come All Ye Faithful

Review: This CD of Christmas related songs was recorded at the home of Amy Grant and Vince Gill, which makes it a very special project. All of the arrangements are very simple, and you can practically picture a family sitting in their living room singing these songs together.  I have two favorites from among the thirteen tracks: Christmas For You And Me, as it is such a romantic song, and Still Can't Sleep, as I am also one of those people who has so much excitement in me that I can't sleep on Christmas Eve. I am thrilled to be able to add this CD to my Christmas collection and will enjoy it for many Decembers to come.

CD Review: Live On Forever by The Afters #TheAfters #flyby

     photo 61t-m5hgzjL._SY355__zpspuco5a5z.jpg

The Afters - Live on Forever Bio:
It’s easy to assume stories of trial and triumph are just for the Bible or the history books. But miracles still happen, even when adversity hits hardest. Just ask Josh Havens, guitarist and lead vocalist of The Afters. He relates how the band’s latest effort, Live on Forever, began during a season of tragedy.

Just as the band regrouped to record, Havens witnessed the wife of a close friend contract cancer. Drummer Jordan Mohilowski (who produced the new album) had a brief health scare, and a close companion in his church—part of the worship team—was hit and killed by an impaired driver. She was a young woman, Havens says, who had unlimited potential.

But Live on Forever–the band’s fifth with the Fair Trade label-still took shape as a celebration of faithfulness, protection and promise—one that shimmers with strong rhythms, undeniable energy and compelling pop hooks. The album finds Havens in strong, soaring voice as he invites listeners to find shelter and strength in God. “If any theme has emerged, it would be ‘inspiration and motivation,’” Havens says.

Havens himself felt a deep need to hold on after another loss struck: The band’s longtime soundman, Anthony Martinez, saw his newborn daughter die in infancy.

Ask Havens to pick out a song that sums up the spirit of the album, and he chooses “Battles.” “It was the last song we wrote and the fastest we wrote,” he says. “We don’t typically write songs fast; we’ll change lyrics and melodies and craft our songs carefully. But ‘Battles’ poured out, the music and lyrics, in one day. It’s about standing up against fear and knowing God is always with us,” Havens explains. “It’s one of the takeaways we hope people get: ‘Don’t give up to fear.

Havens shares how, half a world away from his home in Phoenix, he caught a small glimpse of heaven’s reassurance. The place: downtown Amsterdam. The occasion: a dinner between shows with band members and spouses—including soundman Martinez and his wife. For their baby daughter, the Martinez couple had chosen an unusual moniker with an unusual spelling: Pieper. Against all odds, it also happened to be exactly how the intimate restaurant they dined at spelled its name. Still, no one was prepared for what happened at the end of the meal. “We were talking about baby Pieper, and as we got up to leave, we noticed that the only thing on the walls—the only thing—was a framed document, an award for hospitality. And the date on the award—the only date in the place—was Pieper’s birthday. Her mother just started bawling.” Havens sums up the reassurance all took home that night: “We thought, ‘This is where God’s angels fly: right in the middle of the loss.’ God gives us little glimpses to show us he’s here.”

“We worked on this record for almost two years and over those two years, it was a real season of loss,” Havens recalls. “But in the end, Live on Forever is about moving us to trust God, to stand up against fear. It’s an ‘ante up’ record, an anthem for people’s lives: ‘God you are with me in all this. I’m not alone.’”

Review: This CD has 10 wonderful, inspiring songs which will touch your heart. Here is the track list:
    1. Shadows

    2. Battles

    3. Sunrise

    4. Time of My Life

    5. Wake Up My Heart

    6. Live on Forever

    7. Eyes of a Believer

    8. Survivors

    9. Legends

I would say that this music is best described as contemporary Christian. There is a rock feel to it, but not to the extent that it could be called metal....and thankfully there is no rap (IMO).

"Battles" is a wonderful song which reminds us to lean on God to help us fight our battles. This is a portion of the lyric:
“You surround me on every side
Your love is my armor I fear no evil
    Darkness runs from your light
    So I won’t be afraid
    I won’t be afraid”

I have a feeling I will be playing this album over and over again, for a long time to come.
