My Thoughts

The author begins by stating that there is no new information in his book, that it has all been written before. While that may be true, it is also true that he presents it in plain English, so that the "average Joe" can understand every word of it. He writes from his personal point of view, taking us along with him on his journey to financial freedom. It's a fast, easy read, and includes some interactive exercises. I would rate this book five stars, and recommend it to anyone who wants to secure their future. 

About the Author

Michael Munsey works in the oil industry and resides in Houston, Texas. He received his undergraduate degree from Murray State University in May of 1995. While working to climb the corporate ladder within Halliburton Energy Services, Michael enrolled in the EMBA program at Rice University in 2005. After earning his MBA, he had a major change in the way he perceives money which he is sharing in this book.

As a lifetime fan of Doctor Who, I was a bit disappointed in this novel. The characters, especially Vastra and Jenny, were not written the same as they are portrayed in the television series. The plot was a good one, however,and I for one would like to see it as an episode in the series in the future. It would be interesting to see them write it to fit more with the characters as we already know them, instead of making Vastra and Jenny appear basically helpless, clueless females.

Thoughts: As someone who doesn't go to church anymore, this book title really called to me. And as I read it, I realized it was just what I needed. There's a reason why organized religion bothers me, and this book showed me exactly what it is---the church is more interested in itself than in God and Christ. 

The discussion about accountability really spoke to me. We aren't supposed to be accountable to each other--we need to be accountable to GOD. 

A great quote is "An institution can only reflect God's love as long as those in it agree on what they are doing."

My rating: Five stars

Conversion, by Katherine Howe

Synopsis:  It's senior year at St. Joan's Academy, and school is a pressure cooker. College applications, the battle for valedictorian, deciphering boys' texts: Through it all, Colleen Rowley and her friends are expected to keep it together. Until they can't.

Thoughts:  I was looking forward to listening to this book, based on its synopsis. Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to my expectations. 

The idea of intertwining the past and the present was a good one...but the mostly factual story of the Salem Witch Trials was much more interesting than the fictional story of the "mystery illness" afflicting the girls of St. Joan's School. 

And the eventual reason revealed for the illness....and the way it was solved? WAY too predictable for me. I'm definitely going to be more discerning in my choice of YA reading in the future.

My rating: Three stars

Meet Mary Hamilton

Mary L. Hamilton grew up at a youth camp in southern Wisconsin, much like the setting for her Rustic Knoll Bible Camp series. Her stories feature kids who bring their real life issues to camp
and gain new perspectives on themselves and their problems.

Mary is a graduate of two Long Ridge Writer's Group courses and an ACFW member. She's an award-winning author who started out writing articles and a Christmas play, "Homespun Angel,"
before trying her hand at novels. She and her husband raise three terrific kids and live in Texas with a rescued Golden Retriever.

Mary Hamilton, I think your books are truly relevant for teen age kids and good for parents to read as well.

I got hooked after reading the first book in Mary Hamilton's series. Speak No Evil is definitely on my "must-read" list!

An Interview with Mary

How did you come up with the idea for this series?

While raising my three children, I saw so much pain in the lives of their friends who were dealing with all the aspects of their parents’ divorce, as well as conflicts with parents and siblings.

Because of my own background, I believe in the power of Christian camping, so I decided to use some real life issues that kids face and let them deal with them at camp.

Are any of the characters based on real people?

Most of the adult staff in the book are modeled after people I knew as a child. Often, the characters are a combination of people I knew.

The first book in the series is Hear No Evil. This book is Speak No Evil. Will there be one titled See No Evil?

Yes, I’m working on that one now. It’s scheduled for release in May 2015.

What do you enjoy most about writing?

I love the connection with my readers. It’s very humbling to know that people not only want to read my words but that they get such enjoyment out of the stories. That makes my day!
