BOOK TOUR AND GIVEAWAY: Blueberry Cupcake Mystery (Amish Sweet Shop Mysteries #1) by Naomi Miller

About the Book

photo Blueberry-Cupcake-Mystery-196x300_zpsp8iyqac4.jpg In the small town of Abbott Creek, mystery is as much a part of daily life as The Sweet Shop’s sugar cookies. Katie Chupp spends her days at The Sweet Shop, taking care of customers and baking delicious treats . . . not exactly a profession where one expects to be thrown into the midst of mysteries and mayhem. But when the bakery is broken into, someone has to find the thief . . . besides finding another place to do the baking and get the orders to the customers. Is this a random theft, or is the thief trying to ruin the town’s Independence Day celebration?

Review: This was a quick easy read that was also a lot of fun. It is a clean Amish mystery, and it focuses on love, forgiveness, and compassion.

I was pulled into the story from the very first sentence, and couldn't put it down until I finished the last sentence. Fortunately, it is a rather short book and didn't take long to finish. Can't wait for the second installment, to find out what Katie and her friends get into next.

**I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.**

Rating: Four stars

Guest Post from Naomi Miller

Hello! I’m Naomi Miller — and I’m honored to be featured on Celebrate Lit!

I want to share with you how the title and cover for my debut book, Blueberry Cupcake Mystery, was chosen. This is a story I haven’t shared with anyone else — yet. The story behind the blueberry cupcake…

I was actually writing an Amish suspense novel last winter, when God placed it on my heart to write a shorter story — a cozy mystery, with no suspense, no danger, but plenty of faith, family, compassion and community.

While thinking of the best way to begin the story, my daughter made a batch of blueberry cupcakes, which happen to be one of my favorite treats. Of course, the idea to use a favorite treat was too good to resist. Then, during the early days of writing, I began experimenting with the idea of baking cupcakes — but adding blueberries before baking. Two favorite treats in one!

And there you have it . . . once we had a picture of a blueberry cupcake, the designer quickly sent back a cover I fell in love with (although there were a few more tweaks before the final cover was approved).

I actually began writing many years ago — 1990 to be exact. But I had just become a single mom and I didn’t have time to pursue it. I wrote notes, letters, articles, short stories, and I occasionally thought about a career as a novelist, but not once did I consider that dream to ever become a reality.

Several years ago, after my children were grown, my daughter challenged me to write a novel. I began a sweet, Amish fiction story about a young girl—but about halfway into the story, someone was almost murdered! Needless to say, I was surprised, but kept going. Once done, I went back to the beginning to do a major re-write on what was now an Amish suspense novel.

And that’s . . . the rest of the story.

I’m also excited to be doing two special giveaways — 1) a gift bag full of treats and 2) an advanced reader digital copy of Christmas Cookie Mystery (but you’ll have to wait for it)!

In the meantime, here’s the recipe for those delicious blueberry cupcakes

Blueberry Cupcakes:

Ingredients
1 white or yellow cake mix
2 cups fresh blueberries
3 eggs
1/3 cup oil
1 1/3 cup water

Prepare cake mix according to the directions. Add blueberries and fold into batter. Bake following instructions on cake mix box.

Icing:
1 cup confectioner’s sugar
2 tbsp. milk
additional milk as needed

Directions Prepare icing, mixing small amounts of confectioner’s sugar with milk to desired consistency. Spread onto cooled cupcakes.

BOOK TOUR: The Crepes Of Wrath (Pancake House Mystery #1) by Sarah Fox

photo crepes of wrath large banner448_zpszdycb7b2.jpg
New Cozy Series
File Size: 6124 KB
Print Length: 257 pages
Publisher: Alibi (August 16, 2016)
ASIN: B01A4ATX58

 photo CREPES OF WRATH_zpsr5dp8iz0.jpg

Synopsis: In the debut of a delightful cozy mystery series, Sarah Fox introduces a charming new heroine who finds herself in a sticky situation: stacking pancakes, pouring coffee, and investigating murder.

When Marley McKinney’s aging cousin, Jimmy, is hospitalized with pneumonia, she agrees to help run his pancake house while he recovers. With its rustic interior and syrupy scent, the Flip Side Pancake House is just as she pictured it—and the surly chef is a wizard with crĂŞpes. Marley expects to spend a leisurely week or two in Wildwood Cove, the quaint, coastal community where she used to spend her summers, but then Cousin Jimmy is found murdered, sprawled on the rocks beneath a nearby cliff.

After she stumbles across evidence of stolen goods in Jimmy’s workshop, Marley is determined to find out what’s really going on in the not-so-quiet town of Wildwood Cove. With help from her childhood crush and her adopted cat, Flapjack, Marley sinks her teeth into the investigation. But if she’s not careful, she’s going to get burned by a killer who’s only interested in serving up trouble.

Review: A wonderful introduction to a brand new cozy mystery series. Marley and the other main characters are fully introduced to readers so that we can feel as if we really get to know them through the course of this story.

I love that even though Marley is something of an outsider in Wildwood Cove, she is drawn into a tight circle of friends and co-workers almost immediately, and even more so after Jimmy dies. She wants to solve the murder and get back to her life in Seattle, but the longer she stays in town, the more torn she is about leaving.  You'll definitely find yourself having an opinion on what she should do with her life.  :)

Along with the fun characters and the quaint location, there is plenty of humor to go along with the mystery. I look forward to spending more time at the pancake house and in Wildwood Cove in the future.

**I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.**

Costume Catastrophe (Zoe Donovan Mystery #21) by Kathi Daley

 photo 30770361_zps4ifhdpwc.jpg

Synopsis: It's Halloween in Ashton Falls and that means Haunted Hamlet and the annual haunted house. Zoe is determined not to have her plans for this annual event ruined this year especially since it is also the weekend of the big game and a lot of old friends are in town. Things look as if they are on track for a spooktacular good time, until Zoe receives a message from an anonymous source predicting a death. At first Zoe and the gang think the note is a prank until one of the friends Zoe went to high school with actually turns up dead. Once Zoe realizes the note might not be a prank, she sets out on a race against time before someone else dies.

Review: Another great adventure in Ashton Falls. As the gang gets ready for Halloween, and the Haunted Hamlet, Zoe worries about Ellie and keeping her secret. Then there's a murder in town, and Zoe is once again thrust into the middle of the investigation.

I love the detail Kathi goes into about the preparations for the festival and the decorating that individual characters are doing at their homes and/or businesses. The level of excitement that builds around the big game is something that I can definitely relate to personally.

Once again, Kathi keeps us guessing with the murder mystery until the very end, and then wraps it all up in a very believable manner. There are several surprises throughout the book, and I can't wait for the next installment to see how things are going to go.

                                                                         Cozy Mystery

Argent Ocean Publishing (August 17, 2016)
Print Length: 127 pages

 photo Death of a Wolfman1 ebook_zpssoay1jyw.jpg

Synopsis: Lily Gayle Lambert is a professional seamstress specializing in period dresses for convention attendees and re-enactment groups along with being an amateur genealogist. And a big pain in the butt to the county sheriff…who just happens to be her cousin.

Quicker than she can stitch together the threads of a genealogy project she’s just signed on to research, Lily Gayle finds herself embroiled in investigating the Halloween night murder of a stranger who suffers from ‘wolfman syndrome’. Before she can even get going good on the first murder a member of a prominent family turns up dead too.

Escaping from a trailer in the woods owned by two good ole boys suspected of being involved and a confrontation with the eldest son of the town’s wealthiest family have Lily Gayle hot on the trail of the killer.

With the help of her lifelong best friend, Dixie, Lily Gayle must find the link between the two and solve the mystery before her investigation makes her the next target.

Review: Lily Gayle Lambert is a woman of many talents--and it turns out one of them is solving murders. I love her personality, as well as the other people in her circle of friends, family and neighbors.

This was a really fun story to read. The interaction between Lily Gayle and her cousin, the sheriff, runs the gamut from hilarious to heartwarming, and you just know it's going to continue to be a large part of the series.

The author obviously knows her southern culture, and weaves a plot around it which keeps you guessing from beginning to end. I can hardly wait to read more about Lily Gayle, Dixie, and Miss Edna solving murders!

About the author
 photo susan boles_zps9dup5azs.jpg
Susan calls McNairy County, TN her home ground even though she has moved away. It was here, at Bethel Springs Junior High School that she began her writing career with two friends. They formed their own little writers group that was so secret they were the only ones who knew it existed. She still has some of the stories they wrote carefully preserved in a loose leaf binder and tucked away for safety.
She has worked in retail management, briefly for the Census Bureau and for many years in the investment/insurance industry in the regulatory compliance arena. All of which are left brain activities. So she exercises her right brain activity with reading and writing…just to keep both sides even.
Reading has been a passion since she was very young. As a toddler, her mother read to her from her ‘baby books’ and her Mother tells a story about her holding one of them upsidedown and ‘reading’ by repeating the story verbatim from memory.
Death of a Wolfman is the first in the Lily Gayle Lambert mystery series. Her previously published romantic suspene novel, Fated Love, is a contemporary paranormal romantic suspense (with a twist of paranormal) set in Memphis, TN. Her first novel, Kate’s Pride, is a historical women’s fiction set in West Tennessee in the aftermath of the Civil War. The novel is loosely based on her own Great Grandmother and published under the pen name Renee Russell.
Life got in the way of writing for many years but now she’s come back to her early love.

BOOK TOUR AND GIVEAWAY: Midsummer Night's Mischief (Wiccan Wheel Mystery #1) by Jennifer David Hesse

Midsummer Night’s Mischief
(A Wiccan Wheel Mystery)

Cozy Mystery
1st in Series
Kensington (July 26, 2016)
Mass Market Paperback: 352 pages
ISBN-13: 978-1496704924
E-Book ASIN: B017G7HEIA

 photo MIDSUMMER NIGHT MISCHIEF_zpsmy07kmwv.jpg

Synopsis: As the Summer Solstice approaches in idyllic Edindale, Illinois, attorney Keli Milanni isn’t feeling the magic. She’s about to land in a cauldron of hot water at work. Good thing she has her private practice to fall back on–as a Wiccan. She’ll just have to summon her inner Goddess and set the world to rights. . .

Midsummer Eve is meant for gratitude and celebration, but Keli is not in her typically upbeat mood. The family of a recently deceased client is blaming her for the loss of a Shakespearean heirloom worth millions, and Keli’s career may be on the line. With both a Renaissance Faire and a literary convention in town, Edindale is rife with suspicious characters, and the intrepid attorney decides to tap into her unique skills to crack the case. . .

But Keli weaves a tangled web when her investigation brings her up-close and personal with her suspects–including sexy Wes Callahan, her client’s grandson. The tattooed bartender could be the man she’s been looking for in more ways than one. As the sun sets on the mystical holiday, Keli will need just a touch of the divine to ferret out the real villain and return Edindale, and her heart, to a state of perfect harmony. . .

Review: This is a fun new concept for a cozy mystery series. The main character is an attorney who is also a Wiccan (a fact she keeps hidden from most of the rest of the world). It's fascinating to see how she manages to keep the two important parts of her life so separate.

I also liked that the mystery of this book didn't involve a murder. There is a death, but it's not the center of the mystery--the center is a stolen heirloom, and the many family members of the deceased who are suspects.

The relationship between Keli and Wes is full of ups and downs, especially when she suspects him of being the thief. I'm looking forward to seeing how their relationship plays out in future books.

This is a very entertaining read, and the mystery will keep you guessing right up to the final reveal.

**I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinons are entirely my own.**
